Train Until You Can't Train Anymore

Posted by On Repeat Sports on Apr 21st 2023

Q & A with Athlete and On Repeat Sports Brand Ambassador: Michael Chidozie

ORS: When and why did you start lifting? When do you feel like you became a serious lifter?

Michael: I started lifting about 10 years ago. I grew up in a family of athletes, ranging from world champions to Olympic medalists, so I was mostly around weights and physical activities. I started seriously lifting in 2021, right before I competed in my first bodybuilding show.

ORS: What time of day do you train and why?

Michael: I train with my team 4 times a week at 8pm. I train late, because I pull 12-hour shifts at work most of the time. I have never fancied training in the mornings, unless it's a Saturday and I am training legs.

ORS: What do you listen to on repeat at the gym to get you into beast mode?

Michael: Anyone who knows me will tell you I am always watching Makaveli Motivation in between sets. I love watching guys like Phil Heath, Jay Cutler, Lee Haney, Dorian Yates and Ronnie. The stories of their rise to greatness give me that extra push.

ORS: Do you have a favorite exercise?

Michael: I believe that I enjoy all exercises the same. You sort of have to in order to build a well rounded physique.

ORS: What is your main fitness goal for the coming year?

Michael: My main fitness goal for the year is to win some of the most prestigious titles in natural bodybuilding.

ORS: Do you write down your goals?

Michael: I write down my goals mentally and on my creative board, which I look at every morning.

ORS: What has led to the biggest improvements in your training or physique?

Michael: My physique drastically changed when I started implementing the high intensity training style/the Dorian Yates training style.

ORS: Who inspires you in the gym? Do you have a hero?

Michael: I do not have a hero per se, but I am inspired by the people around me because of their positivity. We all know the saying "show me your friends, and I will show you who you are''.

ORS: What is most overlooked when it comes to getting the results you want in the gym?

Michael: I've seen people train for years with no results at all. They all make the same mistake, which is training with no intensity. Intensity is a big factor when it comes to training, because if you are not stimulating your muscles to the point of fatigue, then you are not going to make any or much progress.

ORS: What advice would you give someone new to the gym?

Michael: To the newbies, stay consistent and control the factors you can, such as proper training, nutrition, rest and recovery. The gains will come in due time. Enjoy the process and do not rush it. Easy come, easy go.
