Q & A with Triathlete, Spartan, Certified Personal Trainer & On Repeat Sports Ambassador: Bryan Christy

ORS: When and why did you start lifting? When do you feel like you became a serious lifter?

Bryan: I started lifting in high school for football. I think I became a serious lifter when I started working for 24 Hour Fitness in 2018. I had ambitions to become a trainer, and I accomplished those ambitions.

ORS: What time of day do you train and why?

Bryan: I train at 5am, because it fits my schedule.

ORS: What do you listen to on repeat at the gym to get you into beast mode?

Bryan: I listen to Creedence Clearwater Revival. That shit gets me going.

ORS: Do you have a favorite exercise?

Bryan: My favorite exercise is dumbbell press. I like getting under the weight.

ORS: What is your main fitness goal for the coming year?

Bryan: My main fitness goal for the coming year would be to be complete an Olympic length triathlon. Eventually, I want to be able to complete a full Ironman.

ORS: Do you write down your goals?

Bryan: No. I stay consistent with the goals I set for myself in my head.

ORS: What has led to the biggest improvements in your training or physique?

Bryan: Throwing motivation out the window and staying consistent.

ORS: Who inspires you in the gym? Do you have a hero?

Bryan: Watching my dad train hard when I was a little kid has greatly inspired me. My dad completed a half Ironman. He is no longer able to race like he used to, so I do it for him. When I completed my first marathon, the Orange County marathon in 2011, out of all the people who were cheering, I could only hear my dad’s voice. I think about that a lot when I am training.

ORS: What is most overlooked when it comes to getting the results you want in the gym?

Bryan: Consistency is what is important. People look for motivation, but what is overlooked is staying consistent and disciplined because you’re not always going to feel motivated.

ORS: What advice would you give someone new to the gym?

Bryan: Keep pushing. There is going to be hardships, but you’re going to get through them. Having a goal is so important because if you don’t, you will get lost.
